Foundation
Law College Dehradun is the first independent Law
College of northern India. The expectations of the
students and parents were very high. On the very
first day of admission seven hundred students from
the states of Punjab,
Haryana,
Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir approached the
college for admission. However the college had the
sanctioned capacity of 160 seats for B.A.LL.B. and
160 seats for LL.B. His Excellency Shri Surjeet
Singh Barnala hoped that the college would live up
to the trust reposed in it by the people of the
state.
Capacity
Today Law College Dehradun has a
sanctioned capacity of 240 students for B.A.LL.B.
course and 160 students for LL.B. course. The
college has also been permitted to start LL.M.
course since 2010-11. In a short span of time, Law
College Dehradun has redeemed its pledge to make the
college a niche centre of legal education. The
students of Law College have been consistently
securing top ranks in the university examinations.
The college boasts of several rank holders and gold
medalists among its alumni.
Setting Standard
Law College Dehradun has earned an enviable status
as one of the premier law colleges in the country
owing to its academic quality, promotion of multi
dimensional legal education and multi disciplinary
enquiry into legal problems.
Mission
The mission of Law College Dehradun is to create
lawyers who are well versed in national and
trans-national legal systems. The emerging
technologies have changed the laws governing
communication and intellectual property rights.
Modern lawyers are expected to remain in the
know-how of these changes and acquire proficiency in
these practices.
